About

Mada's Mission

Mada al-Carmel generates and provides information, critical analysis, and diverse perspectives on the social and political life and history of Palestinians, with particular attention to Palestinians within Israel's 1948 boundaries. Mada also advances critical research on Israeli society and politics in order to further understanding of its undercurrents, particularly in relation to policies toward Palestinians and Palestine. Mada offers a home for Palestinian and other scholars to develop critical approaches, exchange ideas, and develop their own research.

Mada's Objectives

  • Engage in applied social research that uncovers new knowledge and generates critical analysis and theoretical development, and offers counter-perspectives to the dominant narratives on the Palestinian experience in Israel.
  • Undertake research projects that serve the cause of equal and collective rights and democratic citizenship.
  • Generate informed and thoughtful discussion among academics, public figures, and the public at large on key issues affecting Palestinian society.
  • Provide a comprehensive source of credible research and information and inspire further research on the Palestinian condition for use by scholars, think tanks, policy makers, civil society, and the concerned public, both locally and internationally.
  • Examine political, economic, and social processes in Israeli society in general and as they relate to Israeli-Palestinian relations in particular.
  • Offer a much-needed home for Palestinian academics in the social sciences and humanities, both locally and throughout the exile, to discuss ideas, receive support, mentor junior scholars, and advance their scholarship.
  • Guide, inspire, and educate the next generation of Palestinian scholars working in the social sciences and humanities.
  • Bring together Palestinian and other scholars for research and exchange that advance Mada’s mission.
