Mada al-Carmel Participates in Annual Conference of the Conflict Research Society University of Kent, UK, 2025

Mada al-Carmel – The Arab Center for Applied Social Research, has participated in the annual conference of the Conflict Research Society, held this year at the University of Kent in the UK. Mada organized a panel within the event titled “Palestinians Inside the Green Line in the Reality Taking Shape post-October 7.” The panel was moderated by Muna Haddad, a PhD candidate in law at Queen Mary University of London.

Mada’s researchers presented papers in which they examined shifts in the political and social conditions of Palestinians inside the Green Line that have followed the war on the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Mtanes Shihadeh delivered a lecture on “Attitudes within the Palestinian Community in Israel Towards the War on Gaza: An Analysis of Public Opinion Polling.” In it, he addressed growing racism and silencing against Palestinians inside the Green Line after October 7, and explored the war’s ramifications for their political, social, and economic standing.

Yousef Taha then presented a paper titled “Palestinian Students in Israeli Universities: Between the Grip of Persecution and Lack of Agency”. His study traces the political persecution and repressive measures that have been employed against Palestinian students in Israeli universities during the genocidal war on Gaza, and analyzes the role played by student movements and various forms of Palestinian self-organization in the face of this campaign.

Finally, Habeeb Makhoul presented a paper on the subject of “The Palestinian Uncle Tom: The Case of the Palestinian House Slave.” In the presentation, Makhoul discussed what he termed the ‘Palestinian Uncle Tom’, in reference to Palestinians who identify with the colonial master and adopt his narrative, similar to the ‘house slave’. The paper examines how Israel’s policies toward Palestinians have generated patterns of acceptance or identification with it, as opposed to resistance.
